About the Arp Volunteer Fire Department

In the 1920s the Town of Arp started a fire dept., which most of the records were lost. The station is located on Lowery St. behind the chamber building. In 1931, the town of Arp became a city and the fire department became The City of Arp Vol. Fire Dept. Inc. Their meetings were held every 2nd and 4th Monday of every month. In August of 1979, the citizens of Arp voted to build a new fire station, which would be moved to HWY 135 and cost $103,500. It would consist of three bays, house six fire apparatus, and include a meeting room and bathrooms.

In 2007, the ESD 2 was established and provided paid staff from 8am - 5pm. In Sept of 2020, Smith County ESD 2 built the a new fire station at 201 Main St. The new station became a 24-hour staffed station consisting of five (5) bays, three (3) pull-through bays, two (2) back-in bays, four (4) bunk rooms, two (2) shower rooms, a day room, a conference/training room, commercial kitchen and dining room, two (2) offices, a weight room, radio room, and a locker room to house the firefighters' gear.

Arp Volunteer Fire Department continues to contract as additional service providers with Smith County ESD 2.
